About Vels Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies (VISTAS)

Established in 1992 by Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh in memory of his father, Shri Ishari Velan (former Tamil Nadu Minister), Vaels Educational Trust laid the foundation for what would become Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS). Recognized as a university by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, VISTAS aims to empower individuals through quality education, fostering professional excellence and a spirit of national service.

VISTAS follows a Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) and offers AICTE- and statutory body-approved programs (e.g., PCI, BCI, DGS). Backed by a qualified Board of Management, including members from UGC, industry, and academia, and led by the Vice Chancellor, VISTAS focuses on holistic development through a blend of academic rigor, skill-building, and values-based education. Over two decades, it has emerged as an Institute of Potential Excellence, dedicated to producing industry-ready professionals for national and international impact.

Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS) was established in 2009, following the institution's elevation to Deemed University status in 2008. As part of the School of Engineering, the department has since emerged as a hub of academic and research excellence.

Known for its diverse research focus, the department actively engages in key areas such as thermal engineering, fluid mechanics, materials science, robotics, and sustainable manufacturing, while also exploring cutting-edge fields like nanotechnology and additive manufacturing. With state-of-the-art laboratories and modern infrastructure, it fosters an academic environment that emphasizes innovation, practical skill development, and a strong foundation in core mechanical principles.

Accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), the department upholds the highest standards of education and research. This accreditation reflects the quality and relevance of its curriculum, equipping students with the knowledge and competencies required to excel in a rapidly evolving global engineering landscape.
